Notification from Water Department

On April 26th, 2021 water was shut off from 1:30 to 4:00 pm for repair involving a water line break on Long Street. This reduced water pressure event involved Long Street south of Station Street; West Main Street to Cromley Street; East Main Street to Walnut Street; Bortz and Wright Street. This also involved Randolph Street south of Station and north of Madison. Water pressure was enough to avoid a boil alert but we would recommend waitiing before doing laundry and to run water to flush out any rust or air in line. Once it is clear it would be fine for laundry.

Fourth Notification Water Department Update

On February 17, 2021 at about 10:00 am a water break was identified on West Main Street between Center Alley and Long Street. At about 1:00 pm a second leak was identified on West Main Street just east of Cromley Street. The first and second leak has been repaired. Our water towers have been restored to 17 feet. We have found an additional two leaks. One on Madison Avenue near Center Alley and another leak at Long and Station Street. The repairs were completed at Long and Station Street at 4:30 pm. Therefore, that "Boil Water Alert" will end on Sunday, February 21, 2021 at 4:30 pm.

“Conservation Advisory” has ended

As a result of the loss of water we will need to conserve water. The village has 550,000 gallons in elevated storage and the past 12 months average daily flow has been 310,000 gallons. The Village only has 1½ days of storage. We do not want the distribution system to depressurize & have parts of town go dry. Therefore, we ask that residents decrease their use of water during this period. Water remains safe for now.During this advisory no unnecessary use of water is permitted. Additional steps that the average person can take to help include:

  • Taking shorter showers;
  • Turning off the water when shaving or brushing teeth;
  • Fixing leaky faucets or toilets;
  • Delay or use only full loads when washing clothes or dishes;
  • Using water-saving showerheads and faucets & toilets.

“Boil Water Alert” is over water is safe to drink

Therefore, with both the loss of water and the resulting decrease in water pressure we are issuing a “boil water alert”. We will also need to recover the water that we have loss.  We are instructing you as residents to boil all tap water at a rolling boil for at least two minutes prior to consumption. The "boil water alert” remains in effect for 48 hours after repairs or until we can confirm no contamination is possible and issue an all-clear.

If water has been open to air a water quality test will be performed and if any problems are detected the alert will be extended another 24 hours and you will be notified.  As an alternative to boiling water, people may use bottled water.

“Discoloration Advisory” continues as a caution

Discoloration Advisory”This event will result in discoloration. If discoloration occurs, let your water run until it clears. One word of caution: Rust will stain light colored laundry. Please be sure that both your cold and hot water are rust-free before you launder any whites. If such staining occurs, there is a remedy. Most grocery and hardware stores carry laundry aids, which remove rust stains. We have a Rust Stain Remover at the office called “Super Iron Out”. If you happen to get this message late, come to 200 East Station if you need to remove iron stain from your clothing.If there are any changes, you will be notified.

If there are any changes, you will be notified by our website, Facebook, and/or through radio, TV, and Newspaper.

For more information, residents may contact their Water Department at 614/214-9223 or 740/207-1842.

Sincerely, Jim Welsh, Chief and Licensed Water Operator.

1. FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE TO RESIDENTS AND BUSINESS

Conservation Advisory

Last night the power was disrupted to our main well. That power has been restored. The disruption has resulted in a drop in the water tower levels. We are now restoring those levels. As a precautionary measure we are asking for a voluntary conservation of water advisory.

The Village has 550,000 gallons in elevated storage and the past 12 months average daily flow has been 410,000 gallons. The Village has just over one (1) day of storage.  During this conservation advisory the village will be refilling the towers and providing needed water for the village. To assist us in this process we ask that residents decrease their use of water until Monday, April 15th.  This will give the pumps enough time to refill the towers.

During this advisory we discourage the washing of cars. Additional steps that the average person can take to help include:

  • Taking shorter showers;
  • Turning off the water when shaving or brushing teeth;
  • Fixing leaky faucets or toilets;
  • Delay or use only full loads when washing clothes or dishes;
  • Using water-saving showerheads & faucets and toilets.

We want to reemphasize the water is safe for drinking purposes. You may as a result of the outage experience increased hardness and darker colored water (rust (iron) particles from the inside of water mains). Rust will stain light colored laundry. Please be sure that both your cold and hot water are rust-free before you launder any whites. In the event that such staining occurs, there is a remedy. Most grocery and hardware stores carry laundry aids, which remove rust stains. We have a Rust Stain Remover at the office called “Super Iron Out”. If you happen to get this message late, come to 200 East Station if you need to remove iron stain from your clothing.

Starting around 9 am the water to your home will be shut off to allow for a fire hydrant and new watch valve will be installed on the corner of Plum and Powell Streets. Once repairs are made and water restored you will need to boil the water for 48 hours. Samples will be collected and sent out for testing to insure the water is safe. We anticipate no problems and will try to make the necessary repairs as quickly and safely as we can. If you have any questions or problems feel free to contact me at the following information.

Update

January 29, 2016

Regarding:      Update to previous Alert and Advisory

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE TO RESIDENTS AND BUSINESS

Water Quality Alert

We want to reemphasize the water is safe for drinking purposes. The iron filters and ion exchange softener filter units are now back on line. We are monitoring daily (testing) iron, Manganese, and hardness within the distribution system and plan to conduct lead and copper monitoring since some treatment processes were previously bypassed. Lead and copper tests monitoring will be conducted within the next two weeks. The purpose is to ensure continued safety of the water.The hardness and darker colored water will dissipate (rust (iron) particles from the inside of water mains). We will be doing targeted flushing of Fire Hydrants early next week. This should also help dissipate the discolored water.

Ashville Council Information Letter

Council Member Roger Clark took his oath of office on February 25, 2019.  Mr. Clark has lived in Ashville for 31 years.

I look forward to working with the current Council members to continue to move Ashville in the right direction. It is inevitable the unprecedented growth we have seen in the last 10 years will continue to some extent into the future. Our challenge will be to try to manage the growth and maintain the current benefits of living in a small community.

tyle="text-align: justify;">I am excited to learn what future projects council is working on now for our future and how we can maintain our rural heritage, but still be open to the new homes and businesses.

I am retired with over 38 years in the insurance industry and over that time have worked with people mostly when they have suffered the loss of property or injury. I have also managed an office, so I believe my prior experience will help me to work with council for the future of Ashville.

He will be on the Public Safety, Parks & Recreation, and Utility Committees.

Mr. Clark provided the following responses to an Appointment Questionnaire:

Appointment Questionnaire

  1. While rewarding in many ways, service upon the Village Council can sometimes be very time consuming, as well as personally and professionally demanding. Please elaborate as to why you wish to serve your community in this way and at this time.
“Every organized body, whether it is private or governmental, needs volunteers to do some of the necessary duties. Everyone who lives in the village cannot always dedicate or are willing to commit to the time needed to serve. Since I am retired, I would be able to provide the necessary time and am interested in maintaining a good community to live in.”
  1. A member of the Village Council is, of course, only one of six voices. Assuming, however, that your single vote could instantly change something about our Village, what are the top three things that you would change?
• “I would want to be sure we have adequate police protection with the continued growth we are experiencing.
•  I would want to be sure the police have the resources needed to be safe and do their jobs effectively.
•  I would explore why we seem to have so many 4 way stops in the village.”
  1. Imagine that a person unfamiliar with the Village of Ashville has asked you whether he/she should consider moving here. What are the five primary reasons you would tell them?
• “We at all levels have employees who are dedicated to providing the necessary services needed.
•  We are convenient to route 23 for commuters.
•  We have first class fire and rescue departments.
•  We have local businesses for your shopping and restaurant needs.
•  We have one of the best school systems in the area."
  1. Please identify and describe what you believe to be the five greatest challenges facing our community over the next decade.
• “Losing our small town identity.
•  Maintaining managed growth.
•  Providing adequate and ample water for our needs.
•  Maintaining adequate police protection.
•  Fire protection on the west side (railroad crossing)."
  1. The Village Council position you are seeking to be appointed to is for the remainder of a term that expires on December 31, 2019. If appointed to fill that unexpired term, do you intend to run for election to a full, four-year term in the Consolidated Election to be held on November 5, 2019?
“Yes, I haven't really thought about it. This opening just came up, and I thought I would express an interest.”
  1. Is there any additional information that you would like to provide regarding your interest in serving on the Village Council?
“I believe we are very fortunate to have a council that works together for the good of the community. If chosen I would be glad to provide some new insight when possible to maintain the high standards already in place.”
